Find your Tennis!

99-SECOND READ

'All you need is passion. If you have passion for something, you'll create the talent.'

Yanni

On my 7th birthday, I had my first tennis lesson.

For the next 11 years, I played tennis as much as I could. I loved it. It came naturally to me, and the feeling of being on court, and hitting balls was amazing. I loved the rhythm, the movement, the challenge, the sensation of hitting winners, the smell of tennis balls, the sound they made when they hit the racket- thwack! I loved (and hated at times) the challenge of winning a match, and the lessons I learned on court. Although I didn't know it back then, they were invaluable: self-control, resilience, patience, discipline, how to lose and win graciously, how to improve, and how to treat blisters.

Tennis was part of my identity, it fueled me, gave me something to work on and focus on outside of the school curriculum.

When I turned 18, I left school; I got a job, a girlfriend and a social life - and I barely touched a racket for 5 years.

In my mid to late twenties, I had the odd game here and there. And it felt AMAZING to play again, but between work, travels, businesses and other projects, it was never consistent.

But now 34, 27 years after my first lesson, I have made time to play again, properly. I've joined a club and I've thrown myself back into the sport I love. When I'm on court, I'm in FLOW - I think of nothing else - my mind is clear.

Off court, I can hardly stop thinking about tennis, I don't lie awake thinking about business, I think about how to improve my game.

It's never too late, or too early in life for you to find something you LOVE, a true passion! If you have found it, prioritise it, if you haven't - keep looking, keep trying new things - follow your instincts.

When you spend time doing something that truly lights you up, it will energise, reinvigorate and revive you. You will meet others who share your passion, you will remember what life is really all about. You will train harder, you will be more motivated. You will get your fizz back.

Must dash, I'm on the court in 20-mins.
